Before you go
Zelle® lets you send and receive money with almost anyone you know using an email address or U.S. mobile number -- they just need an eligible U.S. bank account1.
There are no fees to use Zelle® at Flagstar (carrier charges may apply) and it’s already part of your Flagstar checking or savings account. But before we get into the details, there are a few essential things you should know:
- You should only use Zelle® to send money to people you know and trust. We’re talking about family members, friends, babysitters, personal trainers, and people you exchange money with regularly and drama-free1.
- Treat Zelle® with the same care you would cash. Double-, triple-, and quadruple-check the recipient’s email or U.S. mobile number before sending anything. (Exception: You can cancel a transaction if the wrong recipient hasn’t enrolled with Zelle® yet.)
- Zelle® is not for international payments. The sender and recipient must have a U.S. mobile number and an eligible U.S. checking or savings account.
Set up Zelle® now so it’s ready when you need it.
- Enroll. Sign into your Flagstar account at flagstar.com or with our Flagstar Mobile Banking app, then select Send Money With Zelle®. From there, you can enroll using your U.S. mobile number or email—it’s your choice.
- Add people you trust to your Zelle® contacts. You can enter (and quadruple-check) their information yourself. If you’re using Flagstar Mobile Banking, you can add friends and family from your phone’s contact list (after giving permission to access it, of course).

Still not sure how it works? Here’s an example.
You, Emma, and Zoe are friends who use Zelle® all the time to pay each other for group lunches, travel, and other adventures. Today, the three of you decide to chip in on a $75 birthday gift. Emma orders and pays for it. You open Flagstar Mobile Banking on your phone, sign into your account, and tap Send Money With Zelle. You select Emma’s name from your contact list, put $25 as the amount, and send away. Since she already is enrolled with Zelle®, the money is sent in minutes, and Emma gets a text that the money is in her account.
Now, let’s say Zoe forgets to pay her share, so Emma uses Zelle® to request the money from her. When Zoe enrolled with Zelle®, she used her email, so she'll receive an email with Emma's request and a link to Zelle® to square things up.
For a final twist, let’s say Emma has never used Zelle®. What happens to your $25? Does it go into limbo? Does it disappear? No. Emma receives a text message that you’re trying to pay her and a link to enroll with Zelle®. Once she enrolls, the money is sent to her account.
